Dixon's 219 on the Ground Not Enough for Buccaneers

September 28, 2013 at 7:05 pm

Buccaneer FootballGrinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Football team got another big game from Mason Dixon on the ground but it wasn't enough in a 42-17 loss at Grinnell College on Saturday.

Dixon's 219 rushing yards on 31 carries marked his second straight 200-plus yard effort.  The yards are the 12th-highest in Buccaneer Football history and the 15th time it's been accomplished.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a TD at 9:11 of the opening quarter, the only scoring in the opening 15 minutes.  They went up 14-0 early in the second quarter before a 34-yard field goal by Kam Sallee made it 14-3 at the 10:36 mark.  GC increased their lead to 21-3 53 seconds after the field goal but Michael Nolden caught a 20-yard scoring pass from Sallee 1:18 before the half to make it 21-10 at the break.

Dixon pulled the Bucs to within 21-17 with a 60-yard scoring run just under two minutes into the second half but that would be the end of Beloit's scoring.  Grinnell scored at 2:33 of the third quarter to lead 28-17 entering the fourth and then tacked on a pair of TDs in the final quarter to close out the scoring.

Ian Dunning made 11 tackles for the Bucs while Derell Carter had eight with a half sack and Alan Ham seven with the other half of the sack.

Beloit plays their second straight game in Iowa next Saturday when they travel to Cornell College for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
