Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Football team kicked off their 2013 season on Saturday evening at Strong Stadium, falling 17-0 to the University of Chicago in front of 1,800 fans.
The Maroons got the scoring started with a field goal in the opening quarter and tacked on a TD late in the second quarter to lead 10-0 at the break. UC closed out the scoring midway through the third on a pass play to make the final score.
The Buccaneers put together their best drive of the night after the mid-point of the fourth quarter, which included 22 rushing yards by Mason Dixon and three third-down conversions, but it stalled inside the Chicago 30.
Zach Draus rushed for 47 yards on seven carries with a long of 22 to lead the ground attack. Will Coyne passed for 47 yards, hitting Nathan Brault four times for 37 yards. On defense Antonio Jones had 11 tackles, seven solo, to lead Beloit while both Daniel Collins and Jake Fisher had nine. Collins had two tackles for loss, including one of the Bucs' two sacks, to go with his six solo stops.
Beloit opens Midwest Conference play next Saturday with a trip to Monmouth College. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
