Buccaneers Can't Overcome Early Deficit, Fall to Ripon

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Football team couldn't come back from an early deficit in a 42-20 loss to Ripon College at Strong Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Hawks scored once in the opening quarter and twice in the second to lead 21-0 at the break.  They increased their advantage to 35-0 in the third quarter before the Buccaneers erupted for three TDs in the final 20 minutes.

Matias Grande got Beloit going with a 37-yard touchdown off a short pass from Will Coyne with 5:38 left in the third quarter.  Lucas McLeran got in the act less than three minutes into the fourth quarter when he scored on a keeper from three yards out.  After RC finished their scoring, Nathan Brault caught a 26-yard pass from McLeran for the final points of the game with 4:16 left.

The Bucs out-gained the Red Hawks 359-357.  Coyne finished with 174 yards passing while McLeran had 80.  Dillon Hess caught seven passes for 78 yards, several of them converting third down plays, while Lukeson Versulien had five catches for 70 yards.

On defense Antonio Jones had a team-high 12 tackles while Zach Bock had 11.  Daniel Collins finished with eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Buccaneers close out their home season next Saturday when they host St. Norbert College for Senior Day.  Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. at Strong.
