August 17, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Football team has been picked sixth in a preseason poll of league coaches as the 2011 season approaches kickoff.  The Conference Office released the poll today.

St. Norbert College, with five first-place votes, was tabbed to repeat their 2010 title, narrowly topping Monmouth College, who had three first-place votes.  Either Monmouth or St. Norbert has won the last eight Midwest Conference Football championships.

Ripon College was third with the final first-place vote followed by a tie between Carroll and Illinois College for fourth.  Following Beloit were Grinnell and Lake Forest in seventh and eighth, respectively, while Knox and Lawrence tied for ninth.

Beloit went 5-5 overall and 5-4 in league play last season, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth with Grinnell and Illinois College.

Chris Brann begins his sixth season as head coach when the Buccaneers open the campaign on Saturday, September 3, at the University of Chicago in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.  They open league play the next Saturday, September 10, at St. Norbert College in De Pere before the home opener on Saturday, September 17, against Carroll University at 6:00 p.m. in Strong Stadium.  The 17th will also feature the dedication of the new track and turf field at the Stadium, in addition to other improvements.
