Beloit College sophomore pitcher Ryan Kaveney added another honor to his 2014 post-season collection when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Central Region Third Team. The organization announced their All-Region selections late Wednesday.
Earlier Kaveney, a lefthander from Cary, Illinois (Cary-Grove), was First Team All-Midwest Conference and d3baseball.com Third Team All-Central Region.
On the ABCA team, Kaveney was one of seven players from the MWC named and one of the two pitchers.
Kaveney finished the season 3-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched. He struck out 72 while walking just 13. His 72 strikeouts were the second-most in a season in Beloit history while his ERA was the third-lowest in history. He had three double-digit strikeout games, including 14 against St. Norbert on April 19 at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium, which tied the all-time mark. He led the MWC in strikeouts, innings pitched and runs allowed while finishing second in ERA. He was the MWC Pitcher of the Week on April 7.
In addition to his other honors, he was named the Sophomore Performer of the Year at the season-ending Beloit College SAAC Awards Banquet.
The Bucs went 15-18 overall, including 6-10 in the MWC for third place in the North Division.
