Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team settled for a split with Carroll University on Sunday, winning game one 10-8 before dropping the second game 8-7 in 11 innings.

The teams also split their series-opening doubleheader in Beloit on Saturday, with the the Pioneers taking the opener 5-3 and the Buccaneers winning the nightcap 3-1.  The results left both teams with a split of the four-game Midwest Conference series.

On Sunday, Carroll scored twice in the first to jump on top in game one before Mike Gulve's two-run single tied it up in the second.  A four-run Buccaneer fourth, featuring Alex Lawrence's RBI double and three unearned runs, put them up for good.  Carroll got two back in the bottom of the inning before Beloit re-established the four-run lead in the fifth with another unearned run and Gulve's fielder's choice RBI.  Austin Martinez made it 10-5 with a two-run home run in the sixth.  CU scored once in the sixth and twice in the eighth before Andrew Kane earned his fifth save with a five-batter ninth.

Lawrence, Martinez, Adrian Peil and Sean Little all had two hits in the game.  Craig Vruwink got the mound win, his second of the season.

In the second game the Pioneers scored an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th with two outs for the win, completing a late-inning comeback.

A Martinez single and Kam Sallee sacrifice fly got Beloit two runs in the first, which Carroll matched in the second.  Sallee's two-run home run, the first of his career, made it 4-2 in the third and Lawrence's RBI double made it 5-2 in the fourth.  After CU got a run back in the fourth Jake Parrott hit a solo home run in the fifth and Peil a run-scoring single in the seventh for a 7-3 advantage.  But the Pioneers scored one in the seventh and three in the eighth to force extra frames.

Gulve had four hits in the game while Peacock had three and Lawrence two.

Back on Saturday in Beloit, the Bucs got one in the second on Matt Meade's RBI groundout and two in the third on an unearned run and a Martinez sacrifice fly but didn't score again in game one.  Carroll scored three times in the seventh to tie it up and added single runs in the eighth and ninth for the win.

Danny Corral, Meade and Gulve each had two hits.  Ryan Kaveney struck out nine in eight innings of work.

In game two Beloit gave Jim Leyhane all the runs he'd need with two in the first on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Zach Jenkins.  They added one in the fourth with Gulve's run-scoring single.

Leyhane went scattered eight hits over 8.1 innings, striking out three and giving up an unearned run in the ninth before giving way to Kane, who recorded the save.  Gulve had three hits and Jenkins two.

Beloit plays MWC North Division leader Ripon College next weekend, beginning the four-game series on Saturday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.  First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
