Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team wasn't very happy after the first two games in a tripleheader with St. Norbert College at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium on Sunday, 9-0 and 7-0 losses. But their mood brightened up after the third game, a 7-3 win, that closed out a long day on the diamond.
In the finale, the Bucs scored two unearned runs in the top of the third when Grant Henricksen crossed the plate on a wild pitch for the first run of the day before Zach Kolasinski slapped a single to score Will Mack.
Beloit broke it open with a five-run sixth. Henricksen had a two-run triple while Jake Parrott and Tyler Peacock had RBI singles and Mack an RBI double in the inning. SNC finally got on the board with two in the bottom of the sixth and plated a third run, unearned, in the seventh before Henricksen shut the door for his third save of the season.
Jim Leyhane got the win with four-plus innings of one-hit shutout baseball. Henricksen and Peacock both had two hits in the game.
In the first game of the day the Green Knights scored unearned runs in the second and third innings for the only runs they'd need. They added a third run in the fifth before blowing it opening with six runs in the sixth inning, five of them unearned. The Buccaneers had a couple of threats in the game but could never get the one big hit.
In the middle game, SNC scored twice in the second, added three in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and ninth while shutting down the Buccaneers. Alex Lawrence had two hits, including a double, to lead the offense.
Beloit's five 2013 seniors - Dalton Deckert, Andrew Edwards, Aaron Bushur, Henricksen and Mack - were recognized between the first and second games.
The Bucs close out their 2013 season on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Milwaukee School of Engineering at The Ballpark. Action begins at 2:30 p.m.
