Winter Haven, FL – The Beloit College Baseball team was hoping for a good start to their 2013 season. But five errors in the middle innings gave Loras College all the momentum they’d need on the way to a 12-4 win in the RussMatt Central Florida Invite.
The Buccaneers jumped on top in the top of the first with a pair of unearned runs. Shane Mack drove in Ethan Blumenthal, who led off the game by reaching on an error, with a double to right. Mack later scored when Alex Lawrence reached on the second error of the inning. After Loras got a run back in the bottom of the inning Jake Parrott plated Sean Little, who had singled, to make it 3-1.
The DuHawks back to within a run in the bottom of the third but Beloit got the two-run lead back in the fourth when Blumentrhal reach on an error for the second time, scoring Jerrick Habecker. LC got a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-3 and then scored four in the fifth, only two earned, to take the lead for good. They added four unearned runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 11-4 before closing out the scoring with the last run in the bottom of the seventh.
Little’s two singles paced the Buccaneers’ offense. Mack’s double was the lone extra-base hit.
Beloit looks to get things going on Monday in Auburndale when they play a doubleheader against Coe College, starting at 8:15 a.m. CST. You can catch both games via live stats provided by Coe at http://www.coeathletics.com/SIDHelp/mediaSchedule.php.
