Beloit, WI – Beloit College Head Baseball Coach Dave DeGeorge has announced that stateline Baseball veteran Steve Mrizek will be taking over the duties of Pitching Coach for Buccaneer Baseball for the 2013 season.
“I am extremely excited to have Steve back in our program,” said DeGeorge. “After a very good playing career he has gone on to become an outstanding coach. His experience, commitment to education and his in-depth understanding of our program makes him a great addition to our staff.”
Mrizek, a 1999 graduate of Beloit College and currently a Social Studies teacher at Guilford High School, has a long coaching history in the stateline area, including serving as the head coach at both Rockford Auburn and Guilford High Schools.
After finishing his pitching career with the Bucs, where he still stands fourth in career saves and third in single-season appearances and saves and was the team’s Pitcher of the Year in 1998, he served as the head Junior Varsity coach at Auburn and the Junior American Legion head coach.
He was Auburn’s head varsity coach for eight seasons, leading the team to its first regional title in 22 years in 2008 and becoming the program’s all-time wins leader.
He became head coach at Guilford in the Summer of 2008 and led the team to a 63-42 record in three seasons, including a 26-9 mark in 2010.
He also ran the U.S. Baseball Academy Camp at both Auburn and Guilford from 2005-11 and was the Director of the Northern Illinois Baseball Coaches Senior Classic in 2010-11. In addition to his Baseball duties at Auburn, he also served on the Boys Basketball staff as the Head Freshman Coach, the Head Sophomore Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach.
The Buccaneers open their 2013 season in early March at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in and around Winter Haven, Florida.
