Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team held on to a share of the Midwest Conference North Division lead with a split of their doubleheader at The Ballpark and a split of their MWC series with St. Norbert College, winning game one Monday 13-7 before dropping the nightcap 9-5.
In the opener St. Norbert jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. The Buccaneers erased the deficit with four runs in the second. Emory Nelms and Alex Lawrence had RBI singles before Sean Little capped the inning with a two-run double.
SNC pulled to within a run with two runs in the fourth and then took the lead with two more in the fifth to go up 5-4. But the Bucs scored two in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. Jake Tresemer knocked in a run with a double to tie the game and Nelms hit a sacrifice fly to center to put Beloit on top.
The Green Knights tied it up at 6-all with a run in the top of the sixth before Beloit took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning with two unearned scores, Evan Mascitti scoring on an error and Nelms driving in Tresemer with a double.
SNC cut the deficit to one with a run in the seventh but the Buccaneers added two in the bottom of seven and three more in the eighth to seal it. Little drove in a run in the seventh before Al Loth scored on a balk. In the eighth Jake Parrott hit an RBI double and Little drove in his fourth and fifth runs of the game with a second two-run double.
Loth got the victory with three-and-two-third innings of one-hit, one -run relief. Little finished with three hits while Tresemer, Nelms and Mack each had two.
One inning was the downfall of the Bucs in game two. Beloit broke up a scoreless game with a run in the fifth on Loth's double but St. Norbert scored seven times in the sixth on two hits, six walks and a hit-by-pitch.
SNC made it 8-1 with another run in the eighth before the Buccaneers rallied back with four runs in the bottom of eight. Nelms and Lawrence drove in runs in the inning while the other two scored on errors. The Green Knights closed the scoring with a run in the ninth.
Jaenicke, Mack and Loth each had two hits in game two.
The Buccaneers have four days before getting back to MWC play at Lawrence University on Saturday with a doubleheader. The series finishes up on Sunday at The Ballpark. Action both days begins at 1:00 p.m.
