Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team finally got their home schedule underway but the results were not what they were looking for. The Buccaneers fell twice to Illinois Wesleyan University 6-4 in nine innings and 11-6. Both games were seven inning contests.
In the opener Beloit scored one in the first and another in the third to jump up 2-0. Evan Mascitti doubled in Jordan Jaenicke in the opening inning and then Jaenicke scored on an error in the third.
IWU broke through with three unearned runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead but the Buccaneers answered with two in the bottom of the inning on Jake Tresemer's two-run triple. The Titand pushed a run across in the top of the sixth to force extra innings.
Illinois Wesleyan scored twice in the top of the ninth, the second run unearned, and then stranded held on in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Mascitti had three hits in the game while Jaenicke had two.
In the nightcap IWU scored a run in the first to go on top but Andrew Edwards hit a three-run homer run to right in the bottom of one to put Beloit on top. Jaenicke and Mascitti scored on the round-tripper after leading off the inning with hits.
The Titans then grabbed the lead for good with a four-run second inning. They added two more in the third to lead 7-3 before the Buccaneers started a comeback with a two-run third. Jaenicke had a bases-loaded walk and Mascitti got his fifth of the day to drive in another run and make it 7-5.
Beloit pulled to within a run in the fourth when Edwards scored on an error but Illinois Wesleyan got the run back in the top of the fifth. IWU then added another run in the sixth and two in the seventh while the Bucs couldn't get anything going in the last three innings.
Edwards and Mascitti both had two hits in the game.
The Buccaneers look to regroup on the road Sunday when they travel to Galesburg, Illinois, for a pair of games with Knox College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
