Auburndale, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team ended their Spring Trip on a high note Saturday with a 3-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Becker College of Massachusetts. Becker took the opener 4-3 in nine innings.
The win put to rest a six-game slide for Beloit during their one-week stay in Florida.
Grant Henricksen went complete in the victory, giving up five hits. He gave up the two runs on three hits in the top of the first and then shut the Hawks down on two singles the rest of the way. He struck out two and walked none.
After Becker jumped up in the first, the Buccaneers got all three of their runs in the bottom of the second and Henricksen made them stand up. Jerrick Habecker drove in Alex Jennings with the first run of the inning with a double and was followed by Danny Corral's sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jake Parrott to tie it up. Will Mack then singled to plate Habecker for the lead run.
Mack finished with two hits.
In the opener, Emory Nelms gave Beloit a lead in the top of the third, singling in Parrott. But Becker answered in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. The Buccaneers then scored a run in the fourth on Jennings' RBI single to score Evan Mascitti and went up 3-1 in the fifth when Nelms doubled in Parrott.
The Hawks tied the scheduled seven-inning game in the bottom of the sixth and then got a bases-leaded walk in the bottom of nine to score the win.
In addition to Nelms, Mascitti and Parrott both had two hits.
The Buccaneers head back North to prepare for that portion of their schedule, which begins on Saturday, March 24, with a doubleheader at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Action begins at 12:00 noon.
