Lakeland, FL -- The bats woke up a bit but the Beloit College Baseball team took another tough loss on Thursday as they fell to Trine University of Indiana 8-7 in 10 innings after Trine rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth and then won it in the extra inning.
The Thunder scored in the bottom of the first inning and held that lead until the fourth when Will Mack's sacrifice fly scored Jordan Jaenicke. Trine retook the lead in the fifth with a run and increased it to 3-1 in the seventh. Beloit pulled to within a run in the bottom of seven on Al Loth's RBI single, scoring Emory Nelms.
The Bucs then grabbed their first lead of the day with a three-run eighth. Jake Tresemer led off with a home run before Alex Jennings singled in his first at-bat of the game and then stole second. Mack knocked in Jennings with a double and then Nelms drove in Mack, who had advanced to third on a wild pitch, to give Beloit a 5-3 lead.
The Buccaneers increased their lead to 7-3 in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Tresemer and an RBI single by Jennings. But TU shocked Beloit with a four-run ninth to tie it up at 7-all and force extra innings.
After the Bucs went in order in the top of the tenth the Thunder loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning and then got a bouncer down the left-field line to end it.
Besides Tresemer and Jennings with two hits, Evan Mascitti also chipped in a pair of singles.
The Buccaneers will try to right the ship on Friday morning when they take on Thomas More College of Kentucky in Winter Haven at 9:30 a.m.
