Leesburg, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team couldn't get their bats going in game one and fell short in game two while dropping a doubleheader to Aurora University 8-1 and 5-3 on Monday.
In the opener the Spartans put up one in the opening inning and then added four in the third to jump out to a big lead. They added another run in the fifth. All the while the Bucs couldn't get into the hit column, getting their base runners through walks or hit-by-pitches.
Jordan Jaenicke finally broke through with a single up the middle in the sixth. He got around to third on a fielder's choice and error before scoring Beloit's lone run on Mitch Dubin's fielder's choice.
Aurora then tacked on two more in the seventh to close the scoring.
Game two opened much the same. After a scoreless first AU scored three times in the second and once more in the third to move up 4-0. The Buccaneers finally got themselves on the board in the fourth as Jake Tresemer hit a double to center to score Al Loth and Jaenicke and cut the deficit in half.
They pulled to within a run in the top of the fifth when Loth squeaked a two-out single past the second baseman to score Emory Nelms, who had singled and moved to second on Will Mack's base hit. But the Spartans answered that run in the bottom of the inning and then held Beloit to just Andrew Edwards' single in the sixth to complete the sweep.
The Buccaneers look to bounce back on Tuesday with a single game against Wittenburg University in Winter Haven. Game time is 12:00 noon EST.
