2012 Spring Training

Four Beloit College Spring sports teams head south next week to get their Spring seasons going.

Kim Zarling begins her fifth season as head coach of the Buccaneer Softball squad, who open things up at 10:00 a.m. CST on Sunday morning, March 4, at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida, when they play Westminster College of Pennsylvania.  That’s the first of two games that day and the first of ten games scheduled on the week.

Head coach Dave DeGeorge, beginning his 22nd season, and the Buccaneer Baseball team also open on Sunday, playing Rochester Institute of Technology at 2:00 p.m. CST in Auburndale, Florida, as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  The game is the first of eight they will play during the week, plus three JV games.

Though they’re not heading as far south, the Buccaneer Men’s and Women’s Track & Field team, under 13th-season head coach Brian Bliese, will train for a week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before competing in the Coastal Carolina University Invitational, which is hosted by Coastal Carolina and the City of Myrtle Beach, on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10.

The teams will all be back home by Sunday, March 11.  Softball gets the northern schedule going against Wheaton College on Thursday, March 15, at the Strong Complex Softball Field.  The Track & Field team competes at the Augustana College Early Spring Opener in Rock Island, Illinois.  The Baseball squad plays at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, March 24, in Milwaukee to open their northern slate.
