Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team won two elimination games at the 2011 Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium but Ripon College held on for the deciding win as darkness fell on Saturday night 11-9 to grab the title.
Beloit opened their long day with a 13-6 win over Ripon College on Saturday morning. They then topped Ripon 17-7 in eight innings during the afternoon in the first Championship Game, forcing a winner-take-all contest.
Ripon, playing as the home team, jumped on top in the first with a pair of runs. But the Bucs evened it up at 2-all in the second. Mike Ross scored on an error and then Jon Siil drove in Dan Edwards with the tying run.
The Buccaneers took the lead in the fourth with five runs. Evan Mascitti had a two-run single, Mike Kovach an RBI groundout, Al Loth a sacrifice fly and Jordan Jaenicke a run-scoring double to make it 7-2. But the Red Hawks rebounded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 lead.
RC increased their lead to 10-7 with two runs in the fifth and added another in the eighth to take an 11-7 lead into the final inning.
The Bucs refused to go quietly, cutting the deficit in half on a Ross bases-loaded walk and an RBI single from Siil. But Ripon stranded the tying runs on second and third to end the game.
The Buccaneers finish the season at 27-12, the second-most wins in the program's history, with an MWC North Division title.
