Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team closed out the regular season with their fifth straight win, coming from behind to top North Central College 5-3 on an unseasonably warm day at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium Tuesday.
But it didn't start out so good.
With the temperature approaching 90 at first pitch (warmer than any of their Florida Spring Trip games by nearly 20 degrees) the Cardinals got two runners on before a three-run home run to dead center put them up early.
The first ten Buccaneers were put down before Jordan Jaenicke became Beloit's first base-runner on a walk in the fourth.
Finally in the fifth Dan Edwards got the first hit for the Bucs, a clean single to left. Jon Siil followed with another hit that sent Edwards to third and then Mike Kovach got the third straight hit to drive in Edwards and make it 3-1.
Beloit exploded in the sixth for three runs to take a lead they wouldn't give up. Mike Ross singled and Drew Oswald doubled him to third with one out. Sean Little hit a ground-ball out to score Ross and Edwards got his second straight hit to score Oswald and tie it up. Siil then gave the Buccaneers the lead with a flare double to center that scored Edwards.
The Bucs added an insurance run in the seventh when Oswald hit a sacrifice fly to score Al Loth, who led off the inning with a walk.
Aaron Bushur pitched the eighth, getting out of a two-out bases-loaded jam, before Loth finished it up in the ninth for his first save, and getting the first win of the season for Grant Christensen, the third of six Beloit pitchers.
Siil finished with three hits to lead the offense while Edwards had his two.
Next up for Beloit is the Midwest Conference Tournament, which begins on Friday. The Bucs take on Monmouth College at 9:30 a.m. at The Ballpark in their opening game.
