Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team got the Midwest Conference portion of their schedule going in good fashion on Saturday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium, sweeping Lawrence University 4-1 and 5-3.
Alex Norman gave up one run on five hits in a complete-game win in the opener, striking out four and walking two.
Beloit scored the game's first run in the third when Jordan Jaenicke singled to drive in Mike Kovach. Kovach had singled and then stole second for his 64th career steal, setting the Beloit record that Scott Slubowski had established last season.
The Buccaneers made it 3-0 in the sixth on a two-run triple by Mike Ross, scoring Jaenicke and Jake Tresemer. The two RBIs by Ross broke Ryan Schmitt's career record, set last season, and gave Ross 104.
Beloit got its final run in the seventh when Kovach and Jon Siil executed a double steal, with Siil crossing the plate.
LU got on the board in the eighth for their lone run.
Kovach, Jaenicke, Siil and Mitch Dubin each had two hits.
In game two the Vikings grabbed the lead with two unearned runs in the third. But Beloit responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Tresemer.
The Buccaneers grabbed the lead for good in the fourth when Siil knocked in Sean Little with a groundout and made it 5-2 in the sixth on an error and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Jake Majeski.
LU got their final run in the seventh.
Kovach got the win with seven innings of work and Aaron Bushur recorded his second save with two innings of scoreless relief.
