The "Great Trip 1910-1911"

In 1910, George Collie (class of 1881 and Curator of the Logan Museum of Anthropology) set out on a year-long "trip around the world" which took him through Africa, India, China and Japan. During this time he kept a diary with entries that are richly detailed and opinionated and serve as an exceptional glimpse into already rapidly changing areas and people. Collie simultaneously kept a more data oriented five-line-a-day diary and later wrote an unpublished memoir based on these diaries, called Reminiscences.

The Beloit College Archives holds a complete, annotated transcript of the main diary, and the only copy of his unpublished memoir, as well as many published articles Collie wrote about his trip experience.
