Benjamin Densmore was born in 1831, attended Milton Academy in 1849-50, and from there went on to Beloit Preparatory School in 1851 and 1852. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, in August of 1854 to begin business as a civil engineer. He enlisted as a private in the Union Army in 1861, mustering out in 1866 as Captain of Heavy Artillery, Colored troops.
He was the child of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Densmore and brother of Norman, Margaret, Daniel, Martha and Orrin Jr.
