Albert R. Hough’42 and
Lois Malone Hough’42
At Large Award
Three score and seven years ago, Al and Lois Malone Hough, of the class of 1942, brought forth upon this College a third generation of leadership, dedicated to the proposition that the endurance of Beloit College was worthy of their devotion and resolve. Since that time, living in nearby Janesville, they have dedicated themselves to Beloit College, playing a critical role in both leadership and in the inspiration of others. Their sense of history has included the world of business, with the continuity of the century-old Hough Shade Company and its transformation into HUFCOR Manufacturing, and the restoration of the vintage Wisconsin Wagon Company, building the classic Janesville Coaster Wagon, where the only employment requirement is retirement. They have made a lifetime commitment to civic, church and professional activities in their community, but it is at Beloit College, where they have confirmed their place in history. Enhancing a legacy that includes grandparents, parents, and even Al’s uncle, Professor Philip B. Whitehead, they have served as class agents, alumni board members, class officers, generous donors, and in other leadership roles advancing campus initiatives that have assured our future. The Beloit College Alumni Association is proud to honor Al and Lois Malone Hough, of the class of 1942, with the highest award they can offer, the Beloit Distinguished Service Citation, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of their graduation. |

Kenneth J. Beeby’58
50th Reunion Award
Kenneth J. Beeby, of the class of 1958, is a leader, whether in his business life, in his community or, most especially, in the life of Beloit College. He built Beloit’s alumni organization in St. Louis in the 1960s, during the dozen years he worked there after completing law school. When he re-settled near Boston, starting a thirty-year career in the bogs of the Ocean Spray Cranberry cooperative, he had barely settled when he was seeking the names of Beloiters in his new community to start building ties anew. But it is his class that has drawn his greatest allegiance as a reunion planner, dedicated correspondent, and class agent for three decades. This dedicated brother of Sigma Chi, with the support of his wife, Shelley Seip-Beeby of the class of 1959, has been a devoted servant and leader for his alma mater. The Beloit Alumni Association is proud to recognize this model of dedication by conferring its highest award, the Distinguished Service Citation, to Ken Beeby on the occasion of his 50th reunion. |

J. Edson Way'68
40th Reunion Award
J. Edson Way , of the class of 1968, is the quintessential Beloiter. He has always thought about what he can do, never about what he can’t. He was a member of the first class of the Beloit Plan, designing a field term that introduced him to New Mexico, where he came to spend so much of his professional career as a museum director and State Director of Cultural Affairs. It was on that field term that he met classmate Jenny Chappell, a fellow anthropology major, who would become his wife and partner in countless personal, anthropological, and museum adventures. As a Beloit faculty member and director of the Logan Museum of Anthropology, he served as an ambassador for Beloit College following in the footsteps of Roy Chapman Andrews and other distinguished predecessors. Founding director of the Beloit museum studies program, he designed one of the hallmarks of Beloit’s distinctive academic programs. He has always enjoyed a good challenge, whether as a world champion competitive donkey racer, working with Native American prisoners at the New Mexico State Penitentiary, or most recently, completing a Master of Divinity degree at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest. Beloit College is pleased to honor this graduate, parent, former faculty member, and world-wide representative on the 40th anniversary of his commencement. We are proud to bestow upon him the highest alumni award, the Beloit College Alumni Association Distinguished Service Citation. |

Thomas J. O’Neill’83
25th Reunion Award
In the essay accompanying his application to Beloit College, Tom O’Neill wrote that you must be “willing to work hard for what you want.” Fortunately for us, Beloit’s success and advancement are things that Tom has been committed to since graduating in the Class of 1983. Whether as quarterback for the Buccaneer football team, or in his diverse areas of responsibility as he rose to Executive Vice President of Marshall and Ilsley Bank, or in his competitive-level cycling, or training of his English setters for hunting, he brings a natural energy and intensity to all that he does. As a trustee of Beloit College, he has applied his skills to the demands and complexity of the governance of the College, adding enthusiasm and confidence to the board and to all with whom he works at the College. Serving on the host committee for the Golden Jubilee of Professor of Music Eudora Shepherd, or honoring Emil Kreider and his mentors in the economics department, or enhancing the future of football at Beloit, he has been a committed supporter and volunteer, setting high standards for all of those who claim dedication to this College. The Beloit Alumni Association is proud to honor him on the occasion of his 25th reunion by conferring upon him its highest award, the Beloit College Distinguished Service Citation. |

Andrew Boryczka'98
Young Alumni Award
Whether carrying the Olympic torch, racing up 94 floors of Chicago’s Hancock Tower, or flipping burgers for the Buccaneer baseball team, Andy Boryczka, of the class of 1998, has been leading the pack and challenging those behind him to catch up and do their best. Since Andy graduated, he has demonstrated the characteristics that Beloit admires in its students and graduates. He is an entrepreneur who gives back to his community and gives back to Beloit College. Five years after his friend and classmate David Browne'95 died of an undetected congenital heart condition, Andy organized the first annual 1,800-mile ride across America to raise money for the American Heart Association in David’s honor. Since that first ride, Andy and his fellow riders, many of them from Beloit College, have not only raised money for research but have kept David’s memory alive. He has also created opportunities for Beloit students to come to know alumni and to understand the camaraderie of Beloit graduates as they enhance the quality of life at every stage of the race. Beloit is proud of Andy Boryczka and his achievements and recognizes him as a symbol of all that is great about this College. On the occasion of his tenth reunion, the Beloit College Alumni Association is honored to confer upon him the 2008 Young Alumni Award and wishes him continued success. |

Donna Niesman'68
Alumni Award
A French seminar in 1966 did more than broaden horizons for Donna Niesman, of the class of 1968. It gave her life numerous directions and inspired her to a career in travel. Her time at Beloit developed her key interest in people that led to thirteen years serving the people of Illinois and decades more of service to the graduates of Beloit. Today, with her bags always packed, she runs her own travel agency and uses her frequent flier miles to keep in touch with far-flung classmates here and abroad. Secretary of the Beloit College Alumni Association Board of Directors, class agent to the class of 1968 for two decades, class officer, generous Chapin Society member, and career advisor to students, she has never lost her touch with people and her love of this College. On this, the 40 th anniversary of her graduation, the Beloit College Alumni Association is honored to confer upon her its annual Alumni Award in recognition of her devotion, service and support of this College.
