Chamberlin Hall is Gone
Throughout the months of October and November Chamberlin Hall has been dismantled level-by-level, with work currently being finished on the basement. With each level removed, more and more of the new Center for the Sciences has been revealed to campus. Its removal has added a sense of spaciousness to the north of the academic side of campus. You can see this space for yourself via the Beloit College webcam. The webcam, which was first used to view the construction of the new Center for the Sciences, was moved to capture the “deconstruction” of Chamberlin Hall and will remain pointed towards its footprint during the subsequent installation of the final elements of the Center for the Sciences. |

Employee Positions Eliminated at Beloit College
Beloit College is “not immune from the economic problems facing our country” noted the College’s Interim President Dick Niemiec as he announced an employee reduction at the liberal arts college. The elimination of as many as 40 positions at the college was announced at a campus wide meeting and in a letter sent to all employees.
Niemiec met with the campus community in early November to outline the financial situation at the college which is facing a $1 million shortfall. He noted that “like most families and organizations in the country, we are facing economic challenges at Beloit College. While I think that they are difficult, I do not think they constitute a crisis…We do not believe that we will in any way have to sacrifice the quality of the educational experience we deliver here.” Read More |
