Definition

• Off campus experience.
• Pre-professional or paraprofessional work.
• Full-time (generally 32 hours/week or more).
• Usually includes an academic component (Academic Project).

During The Semester

• For credit:
  • Usually is for 2 units of internship and 1 - 2 units of Special Project credit.
  • Must be carefully arranged ahead of time with FACS and faculty sponsor(s).
  • Costs full tuition rate if full load (3+ units), or per unit rate if reduced load.
  • May receive financial aid if full-time (if student normally is eligible for financial aid).
  • Credit is not given retroactively.

• Not for credit (do not register for a vacation term):
  • Name of internship site and internship's title appears on transcript.
  • Must be registered with FACS (includes faculty advisor approval requirement).
  • Gives a level of legitimacy to experience in eyes of employers and graduate schools.
  • No cost.

During The Summer

• For credit:
  • Typically involves 1 unit of internship credit.
  • Must be carefully arranged with FACS and faculty sponsor.
  • Costs $150 for 1 unit of summer internship credit if it is the first time the student is registering a for-credit summer internship; thereafter costs full summer course tuition.
  • Credit is not given retroactively.

• Not for credit:
  • Must be registered with FACS (includes faculty advisor approval requirement).
  • Name of internship site and intern's title appears on transcript.
  • Appearance on transcript gives a level of legitimacy to experience in eyes of employers and graduate schools.
  • No cost.
