The proxy server enables Beloit College students, faculty, and staff to view campus-restricted pages, such as research databases, from off-campus. See the Browser Configuration for Proxy Clients instructions for more information.
Acquisitions & cataloging staff order and catalog library books, videos, CDs and other materials. A monthly list of new additions to the library is available for browsing. To request an item for purchase, fill out a purchase request form. You may also direct questions or suggestions to Joel Paulson, acquisitions coordinator.
The College Archives is a collection of materials relating to the College's history, including official publications, photographs, and memorabilia. Interested students and researchers are encouraged to visit the Archives, which is open Mon. and Wed. from 8:30 to 12 and 1 to 5, Tues. and Thurs. from 8:30 to 12:30, and Fri. from 8:30 to 12 and 1 to 2:30. Inquiries may also be sent to the Archivist, Fred Burwell. For more information, see the Archives home page.
The library collection of DVDs and audio CDs are checked out from the main circulation desk. Videos are shelved on the main floor. Inquiries about what is included in this collection, or availability of AV materials not held at Beloit should be directed to the reference librarian.
The circulation staff check out books and reserves. Books are loaned to students for four weeks, and renewals are usually allowed. BELCAT, the library catalog, will show whether or not an item's status is "checked out". If you would like a book that is in use to be held for you when it's returned, or if you can't find a wanted item on the shelf, place a request at the circulation desk. To review and renew items you have checked out, go to the My Account choice in BELCAT, or see information on help with My Account. You may direct questions about circulation services, policies and fines to Anita Drake.
Class instruction and tours are provided on request. Librarians present research strategies and sources aimed at specific courses and assignments. Please contact Christine Nelson.

The Director's office administers Library policies and financial resources. Inquiries may be directed to Charlotte Slocum Patriquin, Director of Information Services and Resources, or Pegg Stoddard, Executive Secretary.
The government documents collection at Beloit includes historic runs of Congressional documents, foreign relations materials, census statistics on CD-ROM, and a variety of government information. As a selective depository, the Library currently receives about one quarter of the available U.S. government publications. Contact Joel Paulson, 363-2482, paulsonj@beloit.edu, for more information.
The interlibrary loan service obtains
for students, faculty and staff, materials that are not in Beloit's collection.
You may submit an
article request form.
A good way to submit book requests is via
WorldCat.
Find the item you need, click on the ILL button, fill in the information about
yourself, and submit. There is also a
book
request form.
Allow about 10 to 15 days for receipt. Please direct questions
about interlibrary loan to Cindy Cooley.
The Library receives over 1500 periodical subscriptions both in print and online, including scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers. Back files are maintained in paper, electronic form, or microfilm. Inquiries about periodical subscriptions may be directed to Joel Paulson, 363-2482, paulsonj@beloit.edu.
Reference staff are available to answer questions about the library collection and services, and to give help to researchers. If you're not sure where to begin, or who to ask, go to reference staff for help. Any questions are appropriate, from finding call numbers to identifying articles on a specialized topic, from using microfilm to tracking down web sites. Personal assistance is available at the library most open hours. You can also contact Reference staff via phone, email, and instant messaging.
Reserve readings for courses are available for 2 hour loan at the library. Some items can go out overnight within two hours of closing time. To search for reserve items in BELCAT, click on Reserve Desk. Tips for faculty putting items on reserve are on the Academic Reserves Policies and Procedures page. Contact Deb Lynch or Anita Drake for more information.
Several distinct collections are shelved in the Archives area, including the M.L. King Peace Collection, the Beloit Poetry Journal Collection, the Kull Collection of books on Woodrow Wilson, and the Rheingold Collection on F.D. Roosevelt. Books in these special collections are included in BELCAT, the library catalog. For more information, see the Special Collections web page. Questions about the collections may be directed to Fred Burwell.
