Campus Master Plan
In the fall of 2003, Beloit College initiated the preparation of a Master Plan for the entire campus. The intent of the Plan is to create a vision for the campus over the next 25 years that will enrich the campus legacy and embody the academic Strategic Plan in the physical campus. Based upon goals established by the College, Civitas, Inc. prepared a Master Plan that assesses the physical attributes of the campus holdings and the core cultural and academic assets of the College. The Plan recommends short and long term steps toward a future in which the physical environment rises to the exceptional quality of the academic and cultural environment. Please refer to the Campus Master Plan Vision for more information on the current Plan, and to the Campus Master Plan Archives for detailed information regarding the analysis, discoveries and alternatives explored during the process.

The implementation of the initial phases of the Plan is now underway. Building on the vision and principles established during the Master Planning process, Beloit College is moving forward with Campus Infrastructure improvements, a new Center for the Sciences, and creating Pedestrian Plazas and Green Streets. Refer to Implementing the Plan for detail of the first five years, and the work that is already complete and in progress.

At the center of the first five years is the construction of a new Center for the Sciences. The final design is being prepared by the Chicago architects Holabird and Root. The new science facility will consolidate the Science program into one building while providing some classroom space for other disciplines. The Center for the Sciences will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified green building, and feature a four-story atrium space that will be built on the former Emerson Street. The street leading up to the Center will become a pedestrian plaza and landscaped space through the implementation of the Pedestrian Plazas and Green Streets project.

Once the new Center for the Sciences is completed and operational, Chamberlin Hall will be deconstructed and its site will be developed as a garden. It will be a common space for the entire campus, featuring a plaza and deck, a council ring, numerous benches, blackboards, wireless computer access, and a rain garden. The garden will be landscaped with grasses, trees and shrubs native to Wisconsin plant communities.
